Salamba Sirsasana – Head Stand Practice

Avoid inversions (THIS ONE) during all menstrual bleeding.

Baihui (Du 20/ meeting of the hundreds of meridians) is located on the top of the head, the place where all the energies of our body converge. This is a very powerful point, especially for fertility. It is considered the master point of the endocrine system and nervous system.

Preparation for this pose is to reflect on the actions of the legs, torso and neck in Tadasana/ Mountain Pose. Move your mat to the wall to do this pose. Kneel facing the wall, interlock your fingers to the webbing. Place the back of your knuckles about 2 inches from the wall, elbows shoulder width. Place the crown of your head (Baihui) on the mat and nest the back of your head into your hands. Find firm pressure into your forearms.

Lift your hips so your knees come off the ground, walk your feet in towards you.

This is enough. You are already in an inversion and activating Baihui. Take your time to allow your shoulders to open and find proper alignment with regard to not having too much pressure on your cervical (neck) bones. Your upper body should not feel like it is collapsing.

Pressing up to the full pose: Tilt your hips toward the wall and use your abdomen to take your legs up. Stay for 15 seconds and slowly work up to retaining the pose for 5 minutes.
